Creative Writing 2019-20
Welcome! This is a writing class. We will be writing, we will be reading. If you are comfortable with those two things and able to work independently, then you are in the right place!
Course Description –Students will complete several pieces of fiction or creative nonfiction. They will follow all steps in the writing process and focus on creativity and elements of good writing. The class will practice using dialogue, active verbs, understanding plot, voice, transitional elements, and the importance of audience and purpose. Students will reflect and revise their papers to show their understanding of the writing process.
Requirements – In order to do well in this class you need to be a self starter. The majority of our coursework will be completed independently and you will need to be able to complete and turn in projects on time. You also need the desire to improve your writing.

30%- Independent Project
25% Writing Pieces
15% Reading Project/Journal
20% Writer’s Notebook/Bellringers/Writing Notes
10% Participation
Tentative Weekly Schedule
Monday- *Read an article or quote about writing, discuss through writing. Class or group discussion. Reading Workshop if time allows.
Tuesday- Picture Prompt Bellringer- Reading/Work day.
Wednesday- Opinion/concept bellringer- Writer’s Workshop current project -
Thursday- Observation Journal- Writer’s Workshop Personal Project- Exit Slip- Weekly Update/questions/issues.
Friday- Video Bellringer- Writing Q&A/publishing talk, Collaborative Workshop, Exit Slip- reflection
Besides Monday/Tuesday bellringers, which are focused on class discussion topics, all other notebooks can be substituted to reflect personal choice/interest.
