North Bullitt High School Mission Statement
The mission of NBHS is to provide a strong academic and social foundation, within a safe and nurturing environment, whereby all students can achieve their maximum potential and become responsible, productive members of society.
Overview
This course emphasizes reading, speaking, listening, writing, research, and thinking skills with assignments designed to challenge each student at his or her level of ability. Literature studied at this level is organized thematically and selected to reflect America’s cultural diversity. *Course required for graduation.
Classroom Expectations
1. You are in English class to work and learn. Come to class, take a seat, and be ready to work from bell to bell. Don’t waste the time of your classmates.
2. I will always respect you. Likewise, I expect you to treat the room, your classmates, yourself, the assignments, and me with respect.
3. Be prepared for class every day.
4. Cell phones, according to school policy, are only acceptable for use according to the teacher’s discretion. Students should not use their cell phones without permission. Headphones will only be allowed on certain assignments, with direct teacher permission.

Absence Make-up Work Policy
Please check google classroom, then ask for any needed clarification. Group activities do need to be made up, and alternative assignments will be given when appropriate.
Academic Dishonesty
Per NBHS’s Student Handbook, the Academic Honor Code States: All forms of academic dishonesty are in violation of school council policy and are therefore subject to disciplinary action. Examples include, but are not limited to, cheating during an examination, plagiarism, and forgery.
Plagiarism, cheating, and forgery will result in zero credit--no exceptions. Your signature of this syllabus signifies that you understand and agree to abide by this policy.
Finally, I am always willing to work with you. Our relationship will be based on trust and mutual respect. My job is to guide your learning, but you are responsible for it. If you need something in your education, discuss it with me. Please don’t hesitate to speak with me for any reason regarding this class.
